Are You on a Spiritual Path?

April 18, 2025

Lately, I’ve found myself captivated by a deep and personal inquiry: What does it truly mean to be on a spiritual path?

Many of us engage in spiritual practice. We meditate, pray, contemplate, or engage in rituals that nourish our inner life. We may even say we have a “spiritual life.” But doing spiritual practices—even wholeheartedly—doesn’t automatically mean we are on a spiritual path.
That distinction has become important to me.

So I’ve been asking myself, Am I really on a spiritual path? I certainly devote much of my time and energy to practice. I would say my life is rooted in spirit. But still, this inquiry matters.

To be on a spiritual path, as I understand it, means that our practice is directed. It has momentum. It is not just nourishing—it is transformational. It’s leading somewhere.

There’s a paradox at the heart of spiritual work. On one hand, it’s about surrender. Letting go. Not striving. It’s about resting in being. On the other hand, there’s a way in which we are being guided, and we must cooperate with that. Not all surrender is equal. You can surrender and drink beer—or you can surrender and meditate. They are not the same. (Nothing against beer, by the way.)

I formally dedicated my life to spiritual pursuit in 1992 when I joined a spiritual community and gave myself completely to the path. Since then, I’ve paused every few years to look back and ask: How have I changed? How is my inner life evolving?

These checkpoints always revealed something meaningful: my consciousness widening, my perspective deepening, my capacity to embrace life expanding. I saw that I was changing. I was growing. I was on a path.

And now, I feel a new stirring. A sense that more is possible. Not more in the way of achievement or acquisition—but a deeper alignment. A more focused and potent engagement with all that I’ve already been given.

Over three decades of spiritual practice, I’ve accumulated a powerful toolkit that includes:

  • Meditation, which grants me access to pure awareness beyond thought.
  • Yoga Nidra and breathwork, which transport me into the subtle, nonmaterial realms of being.
  • Energy work, which has helped heal my body and dissolve inner obstructions to awakening.

And perhaps most important of all, I have the support of a radiant, awake, and deeply committed spiritual community. Together, we generate a field of transformation that no one person could sustain alone.

Now, I feel the call to bring all of this together—experience, practice, insight, and community—into a coherent whole. A living synergy. A path with purpose and power.
My path is unfolding before me. My vision is widening. My heart continues to expand. And I sense that the time has come to accelerate—not through effort or force, but through clarity, devotion, and alignment.

If you feel this call too—if something in you is stirring to go deeper, to walk your path with greater purpose—I invite you to join me.
